Join us for this exciting and in-depth 5-day portrait workshop where you will learn how to successfully approach the complicated subject of portraiture painting in oils.
We will observe the sitter in the same sustained pose from life to understand the planes and structure of the head and what to look for to achieve a likeness.
We will explore:
The anatomy of the skull (useful landmarks from an artist’s point of view)
Standard proportions and planes of the head
Composition strategies for a portrait
How to organise a value range to convey a convincing light impression
Colour theory and how it applies to practical paint mixing
The correct use of medium
The importance of edges to achieve the impression of form
By the end of the this portrait workshop students will have a good understanding of the stages involved in creating a realistic portrait painting and will have learned techniques they can apply to their own work and studies going forward.
All levels of experience are welcome.

Please note; Unfortunately due to the nature and age of the building, there is no lift access and the studio is on the first floor and requires access via one set of stairs.
After working for 15 years as an Art Director for major advertising companies in different countries, Luca made the choice to pursue a fine art career as a painter. He first moved to NY to study artistic anatomy for a year, then moved to Florence to study drawing and painting at the Florence Academy of Art, and finally to London where he completed his training at the London Atelier of Representational Art (LARA).
Already in his second year of study in Florence, Luca was awarded a work study scholarship to teach drawing to first year students.
Right after graduating LARA, Luca was asked to join the faculty team as a regular instructor, eventually becoming head of studies there.
As a respected and sought-after tutor, Luca has been teaching as well as working as a professional artist for over a decade now.
