Portrait Weekend Workshop
Stephanie Mills
09/01/27 – 10/01/27

Level: All
Course length: 2 days
Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm
Dates: Saturday 09/01/27 – Sunday 10/01/27
Location: Carmine Crimson Studios, 39.5 Castle Street, Guildford, Surrey GU1 3UQ

This two-day workshop offers an in-depth study of portraiture from life, with the option to work either on the head alone or the fully posed figure, guided by tutor Stephanie Mills.

Working from a single pose across both days, you will develop a structured approach to drawing and painting. The workshop will guide you through the essential stages—from establishing gesture and proportion, to building a convincing likeness and modelling form. Those working in paint will also explore colour relationships and accurate colour mixing.

The extended pose allows for a deeper level of observation and refinement, supporting a more resolved and considered piece by the end of the workshop.

Suitable for all levels of experience. Throughout the two days you can expect multiple critiques tailored to your individual requirements. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of the portrait process and the confidence to continue developing their work beyond the studio.

You may choose to draw or paint. For those newer to portraiture, drawing is recommended as a foundation before introducing colour.
