Level: All
Course length: Every Thursday Evening for 4 weeks.
Time: 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Dates: See Below
Location: Carmine Crimson Studios, 39.5 Castle Street, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 3UQ
Please note; Unfortunately due to the nature and age of the building, there is no lift access and the studio is on the first floor and requires access via one set of stairs.
Over the four weeks students will be guided on the fundamentals of portraiture drawing and painting. Students will be guided on how to capture an accurate likeness, to understand colour theory and mixing, and to create a tonal hierarchy in their work. One to one critiques ensure students receive plenty of tailored tuition as we work from the live portrait model.
The focus of the course will be on achieving a strong likeness, understanding value relationships, and developing clean, harmonious colour mixing. Students will have the option to work on a single portrait over the four sessions, allowing time to fully engage with the process and make meaningful progress in their work.
Teaching will be highly personalised, with plenty of one-to-one guidance and individual critiques throughout the course. Group demonstrations will cover topics such as skull anatomy and colour theory, providing students with a deeper understanding of both the structure of the head and the practical application of colour in portrait painting.
This course is suitable for artists of all levels. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking to refine your existing skills, you’ll receive support and encouragement throughout the sessions in a friendly and focused studio environment.
