The Tuesday Studio has been carefully designed to help students build confidence and strengthen their observational skills through a combination of still life, cast studies and portraiture.
Inspired by classical teaching principles, this course help students to develop the foundational skills of representational drawing and painting. By beginning the day with still life and cast work before moving on to portraiture in the afternoon, students have the opportunity to practise essential skills in a structured and enjoyable way, before gradually applying them to one of the most rewarding and challenging subjects in art.
Whether you are taking your first steps into drawing and painting or looking to refine existing skills, the course offers a friendly, supportive environment where students can progress at their own pace under the guidance of award-winning artist and experienced tutor, Stephanie Mills.
Still Life & Cast Drawing and Painting
Working from carefully arranged still life compositions and classical casts, students explore observation, proportion, light, colour, form and paint handling. These sessions provide an excellent opportunity to slow down, study carefully and build confidence while developing the skills that support every aspect of representational art.
Portrait Drawing and Painting
In the afternoon, students work from a professional life model, applying the principles explored during the morning session. Through demonstrations and individual tuition, students develop their understanding of structure, likeness, colour, light and expression while learning to approach portraiture with greater confidence.
Throughout the course you’ll develop:
Individual demonstrations and one-to-one guidance are provided throughout each session, allowing every student to receive personal support regardless of experience.
The Tuesday Studio is suitable for beginners through to experienced artists.
If you’re new to drawing and painting, you’ll build strong foundations before tackling the additional challenges of portraiture. If you already have experience, the course offers the opportunity to continually refine the observational skills that artists return to throughout their careers.
